Troubles Growing Cabbage in Atlanta, GA

Greetings:
For a number of years, I have unsuccessfully tried to grow cabbages as an urban gardener. Out of all the years I think I've only harvested two or three fully developed heads. I start my seeds indoors in late winter and transplant healthy seedlings into raised beds. The plants grow very well for about a month, but they all too frequently bolt, get various fungal diseases, rot, or are ravaged by snails and insects. Other issues, however, are that I have to use the same raised beds and I don't have full sun during the entire growing season due to sun position and leaf cover.

I know there are various ways to grow cabbage either the spring or fall, as we have quite a long growing season. I don't know if overwintering would work, however. Other brassicas like kale and collards grow just fine in my garden.

So do any folks have some suggestions on what works for them or should I totally abandon this all together since cabbage is cheap in the store).....

Thanks for your time.
