Why doesn't Wizards Own their own printers?

We've heard repeatedly about how getting time at the printer is a serious log jam for Wizards (Final Fantasy "we literally couldn't print enough", Secret Lair moving away from print to demand). I recognize that printing on that scale is expensive, but surely it would be cheaper in the long run, and they would have access to it 24/7?
