Should I quit?

Advice Needed

I’ve basically made up my mind but I’d like someone’s opinion who actually knows ABA, and if this is normal for this field.

I’ve been at this clinic for 7 weeks and I’ve been poorly trained, given very aggressive clients with zero CPI or any training on how to handle behaviors except advice here and there like using first/then, or changing my tone to prevent behaviors.. even though this particular aggressive client will often become aggressive with seemingly no antecedent. This client has created so many incident reports and sent multiple employees to the hospital before.

I have received multiple injuries from this one client, because I’m not trained properly and I fear for my safety honestly.

Training consisted of watching other BTs do therapy, no one taught me any of the actual techniques or methods of ABA, except some basic printouts I received to read myself. I had no experience with ABA and little to no experience with kids and the company knows this.

On top of the awful training, the workplace environment is very toxic. All the BTs complain about their job, talk about quitting, and actively look on indeed during sessions. Some just ignore the kids and gossip with their fellow BT since we’re all alone in a room with no supervisors.

I’m in a situation where I can afford to quit on the spot, but am giving myself some time to decide if it’s right for me so I don’t act on emotion.

I’m not posting this to hate on ABA in any way shape or form. Just want to know if quitting on the spot would be unethical. Going into this new path, I believed I’d receive actual training for the job, because I am good at it despite my horrible training. I love working with the kids, but when dealing with aggressive behaviors where I get physically injured, I honestly feel so burnt out already so I know this field isn’t for me. I appreciate all the strong people who can handle this work.
