Uber "Courier" driver took my package and did not deliver it and then dismissed my lost item claim

Uber started a new "Courier" service, that I learned about marketed as "Next time, skip the trip to the post office." So, I tried to hire them as I needed a package that was already labeled to be delivered. Delivery driver picked up my package, and 15 minutes later I receive word that he can't find the USPS. He didn't speak English so I was writing him by typing into Translate and then messaging him. I asked him if he could bring the package back, and I would pay him extra for his time. He didn't really answer that, but said he knew another USPS. The one he knew was a mailbox, so the package didn't fit.

I asked him to go to a different USPS that I had been to before, and he didn't go and stopped responding. I asked him if I could meet him anywhere to get the package back, and he didn't answer. Ultimately the conversation got cut off. So, I filed a lost item claim with Uber. 10 minutes later I get a notification that he didn't find the package that I very clearly gave to him. There were no other Uber support options, so it looks like I am just SOL. The package was a controller I was returning, which would refund me a little over 100$. Now, all that is lost (unless somebody has any advice for how to deal with this, which I would very much appreciate.)
