Optional letters of recommendations

A few MLS program are still taking applications, thank goodness (long story on the late applying but this fits better) One program sits in undergrad and basically you fill out the same app as a freshman. A letter of rec is optional and with the deadline looming, wondering if one is needed. Not sure if in can be obtained quick enough or even will be helpful. They don’t even ask about clubs or leadership positions either in the app which is interesting even for a freshman applying. Another program still open has a later deadline which helps cause you need the letters for it-sits in the grad school.
