feeling much better!

Quitting Caffeine

Completely quit caffeine one week ago.

No coffee, tea, soda, etc.

Withdrawal symptoms were rough. Headaches have finally faded. I didn't quit cold turkey, I weened myself off over a few weeks which seems to have been the right way to go.

Some immediate benefits I've seen:

  1. More even energy throughout the day. I wake up without the coffee cravings and have decent energy right out of bed. No more huge afternoon crashes.

  2. Better sleep. My sleeping has changed a lot. I snore louder than ever and have very vivid dreams. I'm assuming this is because I'm sleeping more deeply and I'm hoping the snoring subsides once my body acclimates over time. I also naturally get sleepy in the evening and actually want to go to bed at a decent time while I was forcing myself to go to bed before.

  3. Lower blood pressure. I was borderline hypertensive while consuming caffeine. Now my blood pressure has dropped very much into the normal range.

  4. Anxiety reduction. I was a bit unhinged with caffeine but now I feel more calm, think more clearly, and live 'in the moment'.

Why did I quit? Mostly because I don't subscribe to the propaganda that caffeine is somehow a beneficial drug and I just wasn't feeling that great while having it.

And finally, if something is making you feel rotten when you aren't consuming it regularly, then that's an unhealthy dependency and you should probably stay away from it.
