Episode Recap- 3/26: Jason Benetti

Recap

Hi Everyone!

This week’s guest was the multi-talented Jason Benetti who I will argue (with bias) that he’s known as the Detroit Tigers, but also for leading NBC’s MLB coverage along with doing College basketball, football, and the NFL.

First we did get a s/o from Jimmy as a method of submitting questions, so for halftime on Monday we’ll do a mailbag that I’ll forward onto Jimmy. Also it looks like Apple Podcasts has enabled video within their latest update. Pablo Torre will be including video, so maybe SI will too down the road?

I wish they talked a little more about Detroit, but understand there was a lot to cover with NBC’s return to baseball.

It was interesting to hear how he got a moments notice to call a March Madness game and that NBC allowed him to move over to the CBS side. If they were able to work that out in a week, how come it took 30 years for ESPN to figure that out with Dick Vitale?!

A lot of the convo covered similar topics as the Met’s booth earlier this week (not calling playoffs for your team, having different analysts week to week). I’m so happy Jason is in Detroit, so I enjoyed the episode.

Next was Sal and a first for me was Jimmy inviting a listener on to tell the story about Larry David trying to change the TV in a Boston sports bar to a Jets game. I guess this leaves us hope that one day someone from this group will get to make an appearance.

Funny convo with Sal as they rehashed the Seinfeld/Met’s game and Jimmy asking if Sal had texted Jerry and then saying Sal was “ghosting” Jerry haha.

Sal also felt his story deserved to get some traction in the media, and they were surprised the clip of Keith Hernandez still getting $5k in residuals was picked up, including on the Today Show.

I also enjoyed the convo about the Rockies over/under season win total being in the 50s, the debate of betting the over (which I contemplated listening along) and then finding out they would need a YOY improvement of 15 or so games lol.

I’m sure I missed some thoughts listening over 2 days, but that was what stuck out to me. How did everyone enjoy the episode? Comment below!
