Almost Life by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

I just started listening to this book after seeing it recommended in a major newspaper (New York Times, I think?), and am astonished I’ve never seen it mentioned here or on any other sapphic book site. I’m only 20% in, but it is beautifully written and gripping so far. How did we miss this gem? The audiobook is excellent too, btw, narrated by a new-to-me narrator, Patricia Allison.
