What are your favorite one hit wonders in kpop?
Every few years, a group releases a song out of nowhere that completely takes over the kpop scene. I think the most recent example is Fifty Fifty’s Cupid. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to capitalize on the momentum due to legal issues, and their subsequent releases haven’t made much of an impact.
Then there’s Brave Girls’ Rollin’, a 2017 track that saw a resurgence thanks to their viral performance video for the Korean Army. Rollin’ became the biggest Korean hit of 2021. The veteran members were even preparing to retire from idol life before the resurgence. Sadly, their popularity has declined sharply since then...
Momoland’s Bboom Bboom is another great example. Its viral dance and catchy hook in 2018 put the group on the map, but nothing they’ve released since has come close to that level of success.
Finally, there’s Crayon Pop’s Bar Bar Bar. One of the most iconic choreographies and outfits in all of kpop. The up & down dance while wearing the bike helmets, looking like a box of crayons, is so iconic.
What are some of your favorite one hit wonders? Have you decided to stan them because of the song? Do you guys still follow them to this day?
