Foam swords? Aggressive play?

Activities & Play

So, my LO has been toddling around since like 7 months, he's about 14 months now. We have a cat.

That's the general background. We attempted to use some pipe insulation to safe some sharp edges in his toddle zone. Between him and the cat, they worked together, they pulled that crap off in like two days. Pipe insulation is similar to pool noodles for those who have not seen construction material.

Which leads me to my query. We have been playing with the lengths for a bit, and today was the first day he seemed really into a sword fight. How many parents would be okay with their child sword sparring with foam swords?

It has also been a useful tool for teaching him to be nice to the cat.

For reference, me and my friends used to sword fight with pickets and stakes after church when we were like 9 or 10, and sometimes we'd come home with a black eye or something that we would lie about. I do plan to get him into martial arts eventually, so it will be a more controlled environment then.

I'm not that old. How are we with letting our kids get up to the hijinks we did?
