Prime Minister and I. (2013) Netflix.
This was showing as new to Netflix this week despite being a 2013 kdrama. Starring Lee Beom Soo as the Prime Minister in question and Yoona as a bit of a ditzy scandal sheet reporter who, as a result of circumstances, find themselves in a contract marriage. There is political intrigue, two separate love triangles going on, cute kids and dads with dementia, not coma but PVS, accidental kisses, and the white truck of doom. plenty going on.
There is a massive age gap of 25 years - not quite this between the actors but 25 years within the storyline. that is waaaay too much for me. but somehow, because he was the primeminister, anybody younger wouldn't have fit the mould. The actress playing the FL could certainly have been older to reduce the gap - but actually weirdly - it worked. and I am normally quite vocal on hee about age gaps. I hate them when they get beyond 10 years, so this is well out of my comfort range.
However, because there is absolutely zero chemistry or realistically anything remotely in the skinship realm (maybe 2 or 3 literal pecks), it didn't bother me at all.
what there was was an awful lot of emotions. the kind of repressed yearning and nuanced facial expressions and the development of a strong romance evidenced by the slightest of touches or glances, it was quite poignant.
I cried most of the last episode but was satisfied with the ending. Interesting experience overall. It was a definite slow burn, but I didn't want to skip or fast forward any of it.
Would I watch it again? Maybe, maybe not. but I certainly don't regret the time that I have spent watching it and have come away feeling more in tune with my own family and relationships.
If you are looking for something in the older genre, it is worth a go, I think.
