Anyone use a JD-Xi with a external midi keyboard? Does it work OK?

My son has a nice full size keys Midi keyboard. I was going to get him a Roland JD-xi for a fun synth to play around with and I was wondering if there would be any issues with plugging a Midi keyboard into it to use. The keys on the JD-XI are pretty small and there are only 37.

I can't think of a reason why it would not work, but I thought I would ask.
