get blocks that are in water???

this is a rookie question idk if i haven't progressed far enough or... but after making bridges out of sand in bleak beach i destroyed the sand and made proper match blocks to rebuild but now sh*t is in the water that i can't reach without dying.

the swimming ability doesn't let me suck stuff up so what do you do? i just don't like seeing it there...
