Topiramate Titration Question

I had a mental health provider some months ago who prescribed me 50 mg topiramate as a starting dose.

I had a bad reaction to it with my vision feeling weird like my eyes couldn't focus properly.

Was I just allergic or did they start me on too high of a dose? I had previously taken topiramate compounded with b12 and had no issue but this was straight topiramate.
