Really overwhelmed pre op
To preface, Im extremely lucky to have a family supporting financially, during recovery and advocating for me to get top surgery shortly after turning 18. I am currently about a week pre-op, and I am excited and grateful, but I also have a lot of weird feelings coming up. I’m feeling frustrated about having to have this surgery in the first place and having to recover during the last couple months of my senior year. I still have some important, time consuming extracurricular stuff going on. Im really stressed about deciding where to go to school and sad about how no matter where i end up going, I’ll be away from people i love. I also recently got involved with a cis girl, who is really great and doesnt make me feel weird about being trans, but I cant help but compare myself to her ex and all the other cis guys we know. Taller, more masculine, pretty much any difference we might have makes me feel inadequate. And now i’ll be recovering while all our senior events are going on, prom, grad nite, etc. I struggle with self esteem, and being not at 100% or being able to fully be there for people during this important time where so much is going on and changing is really getting to me. I know I’ll be so genuinely happy and relieved when the surgery is done, but right now these feelings are kind of intense.
I’m just wondering if anyone had similar feelings come up before surgery and how you dealt with them? Thanks
