Wife and I finally decided to discard our embryos
This was a real struggle. Because we have two very good embryos, one is a Euploid and the other is a low mosiac. Our first IVF journey was a very long arduous road full of ups and downs. But we succeeded with a last ditch effort for a final low-mosaic embryo and currently have a healthy, most intelligent little girl 4 years later. She is amazingly bright and funny. She started reading at a kindergarten level at 3 and currently she's reading at a 1st grade level. Verbally she speaks at a rather advanced level for her age, I think we call this 'precocious?" Anyway that's why a low-level mosaic should be considered as promising as a euploid embryo.
The embryo's we discarded were from our 2nd IVF journey which we completed in Jan when our son was born. He was a euploid 5-day IVF transfer, very healthy and strong. We believe the changes in our living situation and environment made all the difference. He's in the 97 percentile on his growth chart and is developing very well. It was a first-try success with two left-over embryos. I was one and done but the 2nd one was a boy so the idea grew on me and we went for it.
Now I feel like given what we had to go through, I really do want to keep it if it weren't for my age (54). My wife is 34, and the future is very uncertain right now. I'm trying to be responsible and ensure we can make it through hard times to come. Otherwise I think we would have both of them if we could.
But I will always wonder if it was the right decision. I don't think that changes for anyone.
What I do know is that we're saving a hecuva lot of money by not having more children.
I need some other perspectives on this, please.
