Lyric question about Help On The Way

I was wondering about the line that starts "without love....". I always thought it was "Without love in the day insanity's king" (which I'm almost 100% that's what Jerry sang), but when I looked it up on Dead.net it has the lyric as "love day to day".

Is this just an instance of Hunter writing lyrics and Jerry making a small change? I've noticed that in Terrapin where Jerry sings "Light the song with sense and color" instead of "sense of color" and I'm sure there are other examples.
