We lost 80% of our family savings to a relative’s manipulation — struggling with anger, trust, and thoughts about karma

I’m dealing with something that’s been weighing on me heavily, both emotionally and mentally.

My parents helped a close relative (my father’s younger brother) financially over time, and we ended up losing around 80% of our family savings. There is no legal agreement or written proof for any of it, which makes the situation even harder to process.

The money was given in situations that seemed urgent and genuine at the time — things like medical emergencies (which later turned out to be fake), and a land purchase. The land was supposed to be bought in his name temporarily and then transferred to my father later. That also turned out to be completely false, and a major part of the money was lost there.

Why did we trust him?

Because he is family. My father trusted his younger brother. Also, we genuinely wanted to move into a better town area where he lived, so this arrangement seemed practical at the time.

There were also difficult circumstances — my father was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, so he couldn’t handle these matters personally. I was not yet an adult, and my mother was fully occupied taking care of him. So everything was done in trust.

Now, we have completely cut contact with him. But instead of any regret, he mocks and disrespects my parents, which hurts even more than the financial loss.

I’m trying to move forward, but I’m struggling with a few things:

- How do you deal with betrayal like this within close family?

- How do you mentally accept losing such a large portion of savings?

- For those who believe in karma or God — do people actually face consequences for actions like this?

I don’t want revenge. I just want clarity, peace, and to make sure I grow from this instead of becoming bitter.

Any honest advice — practical or philosophical — would really help.

Thank you for reading.
