I don't want a baby shower

Currently 21 weeks pregnant and I don't want a baby shower. My family is insisting and my husband thinks it's dumb not to have one.

I never liked birthday parties as a kid and didnt have a bridal shower for the same reason. I simply find them strange and don't like asking people for gifts (nor do I enjoy giving/receiving them). Plus, I find the baby industry predatory, pushing things we don't really need and will probably never use.

My husband and I also make much more money than any of my friends and family (and they know this) which makes the gift receiving even more awkward.

I don't know how to convince my family and husband not to have one. Has anyone else been in this situation and did you end up having one? Regret having one or happy you did?
