ADHD and crisis social work
i need advice because i’m not sure what to do about my current situation. i started a mobile criss response worker job in NJ about 6 months ago. i’m applying for my grad not in social work, but a MA in Counseling. I’ve loved the fieldwork so far, I work with kids 0-21 so it’s a wide range of situations and using crisis stabilization and deescalation skills.
I have diagnosed ADHD and have been on medicine for years. Even medicated, I cannot seem to stay task focused for the documentation portion of this job. i’m falling behind, massively. I was written up today for not being able to get enough tasks done in a work day, paperwork wise. With my job, you’re expected to get all 72 hr documentation finished in combination with dispatching out to peoples houses for calls.
i’m trying my best, i do often get distracted with this job but i get so antsy doing the same things over and over. I feel like this might be too much for me, but I’ve loved the experience with the dispatches and connecting with families. i’m stuck at the moment, trying to figure out if i should stick it out some more or try to find other work.
