Difficult to get back into?

Title really. I played at launch and it was a fun time, I'm just interested because of it's cross progression now. Something I can mindlessly grind on my PC and in my bed etc.

That being said, wondering how confusing it would be to get back into? I don't wanna start again (if that's even possible) as I had a few ultimate descendants farmed but, having not played in well over a year, I'm worried about potential feature bloat/creep that would make jumping in too overwhelming.

I really haven't followed the game so, I have no idea what's been added over time. Any information is welcome.
