Why can't we?
Reading that book
Watching that movie
Playing that game
Listening to that song
Taking the time to talk to grandma on the phone
Taking the time to plan my decennial birthday
Taking the time to finish that school assignment
Taking the time to pretend I have always been wired the same
It doesn’t work like that for me.
I have tried to tell so many people,
yet the burden remains the same.
Always showing my best
Showing how I can love the little things in life
Showing how I can enjoy being with friends and family
Showing how I can pretend I am wired the same as them
Yet I am here,
Thinking of all the things that could happen
Thinking of all that I did, back when I wasn’t enough
Thinking of all that I could have done when I was still a child
Why I am like this?
Does it matter?
Should I do something differently?
Do I need to be the same?
I do not.
Though, it all feels like I should
Through my father’s raised eyebrows
Through my partner’s absence in moments of need
Through my boss’s demeanor
All that, doesn’t matter, though.
It is still in my mind
It is still in my veins
It is still in my blood
It is still in my DNA
I am wired differently
Not like everybody else
Not like the ones you see in movies
Not like the ones that are closest to me
All that; it should not matter to me.
So why does it?
Why am I still thinking I should better myself?
Why am I still thinking I should change?
Why am I still thinking I am not enough?
Maybe, I will never know.
But what I do know;
Is that I am happy with what I achieved.
Not all boils down to what the human race has taught us
It doesn’t boil down to my everyday life
It doesn’t boil down to my leg moving quickly in moments of stress
It doesn’t boil down to all I should have done differently
Everyone has their own faults.
So why can’t I realise it?
Why can’t you?
What makes it that we should achieve the same as others?
Why is reading this, not enough to make us realise:
That we are good enough
That we have achieved everything we wanted for ourselves
That we have become the one thing we wanted as a child
Everything requires us to be more;
To be changing our goals
To be more that we wanted to be
To be a perfect image we can never reach
But what if
At some moment in time
We have achieved all we could?
Will we still want more?
Yes, we will.
But should we?
I simply do not know.
Will I ever?
What is the point where we know when to stop?
We do not.
And if we do,
See it as this;
There is no ending, unless we make one for ourselves.
The ending starts with us,
Just like its beginning.
Once we have come to that realisation,
We have become whatever we wanted to be.
Once we realise,
The change has been made
We have stopped moving our legs,
We have stopped our constant thoughts,
We have stopped the process of living up to someone,
We have become what we have wanted.
