All of my cats are refusing all wet food options right now, seeking temporary good dry food suggestions.

I had a bad experience with a batch of friskies wet food recently that landed one of my cats in the hospital and the other two are also refusing to eat. I tried different flavors and batches from the store of friskies wet food and they won't touch it, won't touch the fancy feast or even the Sheba. I don't know what's going on if it's something else in my household or something up with the retailers around me. we did have a heat wave in the 100s recently and food regulations have changed. I'm seeing recalls all over (none for the lots I've purchased but still) and posts here and reviews online all saying the same thing: cats refusing to eat the wet food or eating it and getting sick. saw a post about plastic in a can of FF?! I'm scared and tired of wasting money on wet food right now. after almost 3 days of refusing food and hospitalization my EXTREMELY picky cat who hates dry food suddenly accepted it and only will eat it. so I need to temporarily switch to dry I think. only thing is, one of my other cats who's been exposed to a lily once, has had partial kidney failure and survived it but I was told to only ever feed him wet food again, which I have stuck to except the occasional treats. he drinks water well. but I worry about switching him to dry. he refuses the wet so I have no choice. would it work to just add water to dry food to keep his kidneys safe? and for dry what brands are good but affordable? I have a tight budget but I want to get something decent if I can
