I hate this wave of post-Dhurandhar hate towards all “non-realistic” spy/action movies in India. As usual, the mainstream Indian audience fails to acknowledge that cinema can be multiple things. Not every action movie has to be dark, gritty, gory, and realistic. I enjoyed Jawan and Pathan for what they were, which is a fun time at the movies with eye candy heroes and heroines dancing and fighting. I enjoyed Jigra for what it was, which is a graphic novel style tale of how far a sister would go to save her younger brother. I also enjoyed Dhurandhar for what it was (all politics aside), a gritty, vibey action epic. Why does the success of Dhurandhar have to be a diss to Karan Johar? Why does the presence of Varun Dhawan in a movie like Border 2 have to be met with such overwhelming hate, before the movie even came out (hate which by the way disappeared immediately when it turned out that people liked the movie). Examine your own biases before calling out others for their perspective on what good cinema is. You don’t get to define what art is, and neither do I.
