Six months in: Aced a 200 yard par 3 with a 4 hybrid (video)
So six months ago I didn’t even know what a driver was. First swings? At Spencer’s land, he’s got this backyard range. Steve was there, said he’d hit balls with me if I brought him beer. That was the start, no coach, no gear, just me showing up with a six-pack and swinging like an idiot.
Then I hit Jimmy Clay in South Austin, started grinding the par-three loop every day. Four holes, three times a day, four days a week. Trent’s my business partner since ninth grade, always acted like he owned golf ‘cause he’s the noob in his crew. Bet me I couldn’t break 108 in a year. I took it. Couple months later? Shot a 101 from the blues. He barely blinked.
Got hooked though, full Kool-Aid. Now I’m out there nonstop, flushing irons, no guiding. Yesterday I took Dad out for his first time on the loop. Line’s long, random Jason jumps in to speed it up. Hole two: 200 yards. Jason clocks the flag with his rangefinder—says “yep, exactly 200.” I grab the four-hybrid, step up. Hips fire, arms lag, let it rip. Ball lasers straight over those rolling hills, flag barely visible. Jason goes “Wow, right at it” mid-air.
We walk up. Ball disappears. Jason smirks: “Where’d your ball go?” I laugh, “Don’t tell me I just holed one,” thinking nah—I’ve probably hit that green two out of 35, maybe 40 times in the last four months. Two greens max. No way. But closer… Jason says “Hey bro, I don’t see your ball.” Heart pounds. Pull out my phone—video’s rolling. Cup’s empty except my ball sitting there. Dad’s stunned. Jason’s like “No shit.” Minus one on the loop. Par, ace, par, bogey.
Honestly? I still can’t believe it happened. What are the odds of me doing this six months in on a 200-yard par-3 with a four-hybrid—like, has this ever been done before?
