Switching internet providers

Switched internet providers from Telstra to Belong.

Now Telstra has cut off my connection as of 4:30pm today and BELONG says it takes 8-24hrs for the new connection.

Is this standard? It sounds absurd to me - but what do I know so I’m asking you guys.
