Porting a Native Direct3D Game to the Web via WASM and WebGL with Claude Code
I recently tried porting an old Windows-based Direct3D game to the browser, mainly as an experiment to see how far I could push WASM + WebGL without rewriting everything from scratch.
- Original C++ client compiled to WebAssembly via Emscripten
- Full Direct3D 9 → WebGL translation layer (real-time)
I wrote up some of the technical details, including how I handled the rendering layer, platform dependencies, and what didn’t translate cleanly to the web:

I also put together a short video walkthrough if you prefer a visual explanation:
Would be curious if anyone else here has tried porting older native games to the web.
It actually ended up getting featured as the top post on a Korean tech site, which was pretty unexpected. So hopefully you’ll find it interesting too!
