Post-Grad Job Experience
I will be graduating with my MSW in August and planning to take the LMSW exam by the end of the year. I'm currently not working in the field but am on my second internship as a therapist while my first was in crisis response. I have been making it a habit to look at LinkedIn and Glassdoor job postings to be aware of what type of roles are being filled in my area, general salary and requirements. I loved crisis and want to eventually get my LCSW but do not know if I could handle doing traditional therapy FT for the next 2-3 years. I am thinking I would enjoy doing hospital social work, maybe in the ED, but am noticing that most roles have a requirement of previous hospital experience.
It made me wonder what people's experience has been applying for jobs where they do not have the "required experience", especially as an LMSW. Are there any SW disciplines/career paths that not having the related background in would make it completely impossible to get hired at a lower -mid entry level role? Like, would I be completely off-base to apply for a hospital SW role after graduation if I did not do a clinical internship in a hospital setting?
