I built E-Rashan — a bilingual grocery & household budget app for Indian families

Hey r/buildinpublic! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I want to share something I've been quietly building for a while.

**The problem I kept seeing:**

Most grocery apps are built for a Western context — English only, single currency, no concept of a "household list" that multiple family members actually relate to. In Indian homes, grandma thinks in Hindi, the kids think in English, and somehow everyone has to sync on the weekly sabzi.

So I built **E-Rashan** — a smart grocery management app designed specifically for Indian households.

**What it does:**

📋 **Comprehensive grocery list** — 80+ common household items, pre-categorised, ready to go

🌐 **True bilingual support** — flip between English and Hindi instantly. "Turmeric Powder" and "हल्दी पाउडर" are the same thing. The app knows that.

🎙️ **Voice search in both languages** — speak an item's name and the app finds it (or adds it) automatically. No typing needed.

💰 **Spending tracker & budget management** — log what you spend, track it over time, and actually stay on top of your household budget.

**Why bilingual matters more than you think:**

It's not just a translation feature. It's about making the app feel *native* to how Indian families actually communicate. When both languages are first-class citizens — in search, in lists, in voice — the whole experience changes.

Would love feedback from anyone here, especially if you've tried to solve household budgeting for non-English-first users. What am I missing? What would make this a must-have for your family?

Happy to answer any questions! 🙏
