2020 STi cluster swap question

I have a 2020 STi limited. I wanted to swap the cluster so I bought a OEM cluster that came out of a 2019 STi limited. Before bringing it to a shop to get programmed, I swapped in the new cluster to make sure it functioned properly. Once it was in, I tried to start my car and to my surprise, it started right up. I immediately shut off my car, expecting it to lock me out the next time I tried to start it, but again it started up. No programming done, no swap of EEPROMS; just took out my cluster, and dropped in this new one.

Now my question… how is this even possible? EVERYTHING I’ve seen online from forums to YouTube videos tell me that these clusters are not plug and play. You either need some programming done, or to physically swap the EEPROMs to even be able to start your car with a different cluster.

I’ve driven about 30 miles with this new cluster and everything’s working properly. But I really just want to know why/how it’s working, and if I might run into any future issues if I just continue on with this new cluster.
