14-year-old Rozerina follows in the footsteps of her Kurdish grandmothers
Rozerin is one of the children of the new generation, trying to preserve the legacy of her noble ancestors from extinction through her love of Kurdish art and showing society the way in which new generations should walk.

Til Temir – The revolution in Western Kurdistan opened a space for children to learn, live, and bring their culture to life freely, without restrictions, barriers, or the influence of social customs and traditions.

Unlike the provinces of Syria, Rojava Kurdistan is different in every way. Art lovers, in all its forms, from songs, poems, proverbs, dengbej, painting, sculpture, etc., turn it into practice. They do not leave their dreams waiting for opportunities, they create opportunities and move forward with faith.

Rozerin Şêxo is also a 14-year-old child from the city of Kobanê but lives in Til Temira, Cizîrê Canton. Rozerin, who takes her name from the golden color of the sun, was born at the beginning of the Rojava Kurdistan Revolution and, like every child, grew up with the revolution year by year.

The Rojava Revolution is 14 years old, and Rozerin is trying just as hard to have a name and role in this revolution and to be a hope and example for other children.

This year, she is studying in the ninth grade, and is also involved in the activities of the Democratic Culture and Art of Mesopotamia and the Golden Crescent.

Rozerina, who exudes the scent of nobility and ancient grandmothers, spoke to our agency, talking about her love of art and her goals in life.

Little grandmother

Rozerina, who sewed and wore her grandmother's Kurmanji clothes and costumes for Newroz 2726 this year, explained the reason for sewing these clothes at her young age: "Wearing these clothes shows my ancient folklore and culture and also protects my Kurdish language. Shirts and hats are the original clothes of our grandmothers. We still wear them today. Unlike people and women who wear modern fashion clothes, we are taking care of our grandmothers' culture and Kurdish clothes and costumes."

Following in the footsteps of your noble ancestors

The veil is an important part of the beauty of Kurdish women and children, adding beauty to the facial features of Kurdish women and is inseparable from the beauty of Kurdish clothing.

Sun-shaped decals beautify children's faces

Rozerina, whose name comes from the sun's rays, also makes tattoos on her face, saying: "Today we represent our grandmothers, because they also used to draw tattoos on their faces. I made the shape of the sun on my forehead, because I see the sun and my name very close together and in reality they are the same. The sun on my forehead comes from the sun that we see. Today we, the little grandmothers, represent our great-grandmothers."

Family paved the way for developing a love of art

Rozerin learns to play the tambourine during school holidays and says she is trying to preserve the culture from being forgotten and keep it alive. Rozerin continued: “Today, to preserve my history and language, I participate in singing, poetry and theater groups and I also learn to play the tambourine. But my family paved the way for me and are strong for me to develop my love of art.”

A famous pharmacist and playwright

Rozerin recalled her future dreams, which she is already working on, and said: "I want to be successful in my studies, become a pharmacist and own a pharmacy. In the cultural field, I also want to become a famous playwright."

Knowing that she is still at the beginning of her journey and that her path is long, Rozerina draws attention to the importance of continuing the path of art and science.

Rozerin has also opened a page on her digital media account (Instagram) and shares proverbs in a genuine Kurdish manner, trying to live and bring art to life in all its forms.
