Landlord not giving back prepaid rent, keeps making excuses
I vacated my unit with only 5 days notice. The landlord said I was supposed to give 60 days, so we made an agreement.
We agreed that instead of requiring me to pay 2 months of rent after I leave, I will vacate at the end of the current month, but he will only require me to pay 1 month of empty rent after I leave. So he spared me 1 month.
I had 4 months of prepaid rent and 1 month of rent deposit. It has been 2 months since I vacated and the landlord still hasn't returned them. He said he knows he is supposed to give back but his excuse is that he doesn't have money at the moment.
We agreed that I should get 4 months back and forfeit one month.
I don't have his address, I just have his number. I paid by a combination of E-transfer and cash. And when I paid, I received a receipt through text to confirm that I paid.
What should I do now? I had good relations with him, and he even spared me 1 month. I want to be polite about it.
