I applied to a private school for my daughter, and the school is running a background check on my husband and I. I was honest with the director that we have felonies from 10+ yr ago. (Non violent, drug related) We haven't been in any trouble since we got sober. While they've been very warm and welcoming saying things like, "Can't wait to have you guys with us!", I haven't gotten any definitive confirmation her enrollment has been "approved". It still says "submitted" online when I check.
