Arab Women: Rejecting the YPJ is rejecting the existence of women
Arab women from the city of Zirgan, living in the Cizre region of Western Kurdistan, are closely following the implementation of the integration points between the SDF and Damascus, but the absence of important files on the negotiation tables is preoccupying their minds.

Til Temir – As the agreement between the SDF and Damascus is gradually being implemented in Western Kurdistan, many questions arise in the minds of the women who led the revolution and they are searching for answers.

Women concerned about these issues spoke to our agency and clearly expressed their demands.

Samah Mihemed said that what concerns them in the integration between the SDF and Damascus is the neglect of the role of women and continued her words as follows: "Women have risen to an authoritarian role in the Autonomous Administration system, even in the smallest communes. The presence of women is important in every area of life, from the social sphere to the military and other areas, but what concerns us is the recognition and non-acceptance of the role of women and their rights by the transitional government to this day."

How will a new Syria be built and a new spring bloom in it?

Samah Muhammad described the changes that will occur in Syria with the transitional government recognizing women's rights and will: "Women in Syria will have an active and authoritative role in every field, but only if their rights and existence are recognized. Then we will see a new, modern Syria, and by ensuring women's rights in the constitution, a new spring will bloom in Syria. Then a beautiful, civilized society will be established."

The changes brought about by the Revolution must be guaranteed by recognizing rights in the constitution.
Samah Mihemed recalled the period before the Autonomous Administration and said: "During the Baath regime, women were forgotten and their existence was denied. Women were speechless, without a role, silent and emotionless, but during the 14 years of the Rojava Revolution, this view and mentality has changed fundamentally. Men who used to be violent towards women, today they speak of them with respect and live with them. They also respect their existence and decisions. Therefore, recognizing women's rights will change the views of Arab, Alawite and Druze men towards women and a developed and progressive Syria will be established."

What are the requirements?

Samah Mihemed said that unfortunately, the value and worth of women in Syria is not known and concluded her remarks as follows: "They say that women are half of society, but in my opinion, women are society itself. What we want from the transitional government is to recognize women's rights in the constitution. Because women are the hope for a bright tomorrow for the country."

Not recognizing the YPJ is illegal and unconscionable.

Miliya Mano, who closely follows the negotiations between the SDF and Damascus and is concerned about the lack of a women's file, says: "As Arab women, the lack of a women's file on the negotiation table is very concerning to us. The YPJ defeated the largest terrorist organization, ISIS, at a time when states could not fight against it on the ground, the YPJ fought and liberated the region. But now, after so much sacrifice and dedication, why is the power of the YPJ not recognized? This is illegal and unconscionable."

A government that does not recognize the YPJ is against democracy and equality.
Miliya Mano said that a government that does not recognize the existence of a female force like the YPJ is against democracy, justice and equality, and she continued: "In my opinion, this is the reason why they do not recognize the existence of women. We are closely following every step that comes out of integration, but so far it is unclear what the fate of us women will be."

Rojava is the key to women's freedom and equality

Miliya Mano emphasized that the key to freedom, equality and justice for women throughout Syria lies in Rojava, adding: "If the government does not recognize this, freedom, equality and justice will not be achieved in Syria as a whole, and women will not live their freedom and will always seek it. Rojava is an example, it is necessary not to turn a blind eye to women's experiences and to benefit from the established system. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the will of women and their rights, so that women facing violations and crimes can defend themselves."

A message for the women of Rojava and Syria

Miliya Mano said that the women of Rojava must protect the construction system and called on Syrian women to rise up and start the struggle, not hand over their existence to the government that plays with their destiny, and concluded her speech as follows: “We will not stop working for 14 years and will protect the revolution for which we sacrificed our lives and established our organization. We will not stop the journey of struggle even if we lose our rights and remain like a dagger in the throat of those who disrespected Kurdish and Arab women. Syrian women must also rise up and organize themselves and start the struggle. Because there is no other choice, either they recognize it or they will recognize it.”
