09 Clubman First Mini?

I am thinking of getting a Mini Clubman as my next car, specifically to learn manual. I have found a 2009 Clubman S with 88k on it. I know the N14 engine is notoriously bad, but is it a gamble at a 3.5k price? Any help is appreciated.
