Write as fine, crisp and dark as a gel pen with a fountain pen? (beginner)

Question

I have tiny handwriting, and I normally use 0.38mm gel pens because any smaller is too scratchy and inconsistent, but even 0.38mm is quite bold with my small handwriting and is only legible because I use the pens with the crispest ink I can find. Keeping it bolder also helps it be dark and high contrast which is important to me and helps legibility.

I'd love to try fountain pens but I've always assumed even the finest nibs would have legibility problems with feathering, and with surface tension becoming an issue e.g. where lines cross or join. I have tried rollerballs and they tend not to be crisp enough for me even on good fountain pen paper.

And… I often spill or drip water on the page, so unfortunately water resistance is a non-negotiable.

Fine tipped gel pens aren't nice to write with, and the very fixed width and intensity of gel pen lines are a little, idk, "stiff". But the crispness + darkness of lines and legibility is still most important to me and I've always ruled out fountain pens. Are there options for me?

TL;DR: For my small handwriting, is it possible to find a fountain pen and ink with:

  • fine lines, but more importantly crisp like a good gel pen? (with the right paper)
  • dark
  • doesn't fade
  • water resistant
