Let my guard down - they never genuinely want to be your friend
I haven't been to church in six years. My ward has not acknowledged my absence or contacted me about it in any way. It's been so long, I thought they'd forgotten about me, so I let my guard down.
Some neighbors stopped by. They moved in right after I stopped attending and have never spoken to me until today. My spouse let them in and I made the mistake of thinking they were just being friendly, so came out to chat.
Which made me wonder why they suddenly showed interest in us. I looked them up in the app: Ward Missionaries.
Dammit. I should have known.
Does the "fake friends" tactic ever work on ex-members? What are your experiences with this? I know it's fake, but it kind of hurts.
