[PS3 Slim - CECH3001a] After 15 years of dutiful service, my HDMI port has given up on me...
My HDMI port on my HEN'd 3001A gave out on me today finally. The pins are bent. I'd been dealing with intermittent connection for the last 2 years, but it continued to work until today.
While adjusting pins back into place, one of them snapped in half.
It seems my only option is to replace the port by soldering in a new one.
Given that this is a non-serialized part, there should be no issues installing a new one, correct?
I recently ramped up a small business doing console repair, but typically focus on handhelds as I do not have a preheat mat for these types of multi-layer copper heatsink boards.
I intend to use large amounts of flux and hot air to unseat the HDMI port, and then replace it with the port by tacking down the corners and subsequently drag soldering the pins to the board.
As silly as it sounds, I am struggling financially and on the verge of homelessness, but this console brings me a lot of joy, and obviously has sentimental value as I received it for my 10th Birthday after my CECHG died out via YLOD (something I'd have had the wherewithal to attempt to repair today, but certainly not back in the day as a kid. As well, to repair that, I'd need a rework station and to not have thrown the poor thing away after my dad claimed he was going to solder it for 2 years).
Sadly, even a $10 part is consequential when you're struggling to put food on the table (This is not meant as a guilt trip, just context), and I want to ensure that, when I can scrape together a few bucks to purchase the port, I do the job correctly the first time and don't cause irreparable damage to the board.
Thus, I'd like to make sure my thinking is sound.
I really appreciate any tips or advice. I know this is a pretty straightforward repair, but I tend to worry far more about my own consoles as I have a severe emotional attachment and 15 years of memories on this console.
Thank you.
