Am I weird for disliking 4p commander Free-for-all?

I recently started playing Commander. I’m new to Commander but not MTG. I have now played two different sessions at different stores. Met some nice people and had fun but I feel like free-for-alls are kinda stressful. At yesterday’s game I put forth the idea a few times that we could play 2v2, two-headed giant, or split up to do 1v1… no one was really going for it.

Is there something about Commander which is intrinsically 4 player? This is all I really see and I don’t understand why. It also feels limiting to me, since back in the day my friends and ai would play 1v1, 3p, 2v2, or pentagram even (5p, your opponents are the two opposite you).

Players at these events also seem to form pods and don’t mingle between matches.

What do y’all think, is there a better way to find some variety?
