I am brand new to the game! Any beginner tips? (VR)

I just downloaded the game a couple weeks ago and have played a couple times.

The planet i touched down on was radioactive and hazy and just awful. i gathered materials for a while and followed the tutorial while fighting the adjustment to the motion sickness aspect, which ive since overcome. Eventually i came across a drone which i analyzed and killed it, because thats what ive done to everything since then. Turns out that was a recon drone and now theres a timer in my face saying imminent threat and a countdown. So i jump into my ship to fly for the very first time in VR and i now have to dogfight some random tie fighters. Finally manage to escape after like a 10 minute fight and jump to the nearest planet which was red from space but an icy planet that was blue on the surface. So blue it was harsh on my eyes. I only gathered a few more resources before leaving and jumping to the third planet which was basalt and volcanic. Red much easier on the eyes.

Ive since set up two bases on this third volcanic planet i named Basken. Im very curious about the community aspect of this game, what would you guys suggest i keep in mind?
