Am I wrong for talking to my friend "inappropriately" (according to my girlfriend)?
So I have this friend I knew in college, we haven't really been in touch in person in a while but we started hanging out gaming together online over the past year or so. I'm 26M, she's 25F, and my girlfriend is 26F.
We mostly talk through voice chat when we game but we also text. Mostly to schedule stuff, share memes, etc but recently we've been talking about more personal things and becoming closer as friends. I didn't see it as an issue as it's platonic and we live in different states anyway, so it's not like any cheating could happen even if I were that kind of guy. Which I'm not. My friend also knows I have a girlfriend of course, and she was in a relationship for most of our friendship but is recently single.
I don't really want to go into everything that was actually said between us, but basically my girlfriend read some of our chats recently (I let her because she didn't like some of the stuff she overheard in our voice chats). It's mostly just jokes and stuff but she looked so appalled when she was going through the messages. Like she had her hand over her mouth and looked like she was in a mix of anger and wanting to cry, so of course I asked what was wrong and tried to talk about it, but she wasn't really telling me which specific messages bothered her for me to even address it.
We did eventually talk about it and she acted like I didn't even have a defensible position. She says some of the messages were "so obviously sexually charged" and she doesn't trust me to ever be alone with this friend in person. Just to give one example of one of the messages in question, we were talking about an acting class we did together in college, and I said something like "ngl, I barely had to do any acting there 😅" in reference to a romantic scene we did together. It was completely innocent, not like a sex scene obviously. But my girlfriend didn't like the way I was talking to her.
So for one, I don't even think I was saying anything inappropriate, but secondly, am I wrong for having a close friendship with a woman and saying things my girlfriend does think are inappropriate? If it wasn't clear, these allegedly inappropriate messages were mutual and she had a lot of issues with what my friend was saying too.
It's not like I plan to cheat with her nor am I "emotionally cheating."
