Is AI Better for Editing and Structuring Than Generating Ideas?
I’ve been experimenting with AI for academic work, and it seems much stronger at refining existing content than creating genuinely original ideas. When I use it to edit grammar, improve clarity, or restructure an argument, the results are usually solid. But when I rely on it to generate ideas or arguments from scratch, the output often feels generic, predictable, or lacking depth. It makes me think AI is better used as a tool to polish and organize human thinking rather than replace it entirely. Curious how others are using it—do you trust AI to generate ideas, or do you mainly use it to refine what you’ve already come up with?
