A drag path of almost.
We never really got the chance to get close—not that I made it easy. I know you tried. I just wouldn’t let you get too far, because if I’m honest, I was afraid of what would happen if things became real.
With you, I’m always on a seesaw. One moment I feel deeply seen, like you understand me in a way that’s rare. The next, I feel almost invisible. And even though part of me wants to move closer, to deepen whatever this is between us, I know I can’t.
My heart is too soft. It’s been through too much.
I feel it in my bones—you would hurt me. Not intentionally, maybe, but in a way that would leave me in pieces. I’ve only just finished putting myself back together. I’ve worked too hard to find peace again, to feel safe in my own life… and then you came along and disrupted all of it.
You say things that make me want to reach for you. You create moments that feel like they could become something real—something meaningful. But they don’t. They can’t. What we have is fleeting. It’s stardust—beautiful, electric, but intangible. It was never going to materialize into something I could hold onto.
Your ambiguity isn’t a flaw. It’s just not something I can live inside of.
I need consistency. I may seem lighthearted, but I carry more than I let on. I need something steady—something real.
I thought I knew you. I thought maybe the universe had aligned something here, that this was what people mean when they talk about fate. But reality is colder than that. And the truth is, I never really knew you at all—even if I felt like I did.
Maybe, if things were different, we could have been something extraordinary. But potential isn’t enough to build a life on. And just because something could have been great doesn’t mean it was meant to be.
So I’ll carry this to its quiet, unresolved end.
I’ll be kind. I’ll be gentle. But I won’t reach for you anymore.
I wish things were different. I wish I wasn’t afraid. I wish you had been more direct, more certain. But we don’t always get what we want.
So I’m letting you go.
Do me the kindness of letting me go too
