What the new feature does
- Lets drivers select their EV’s make and model so Google Maps can estimate battery usage.
- Uses AI + energy models to predict consumption based on:
  - Vehicle weight
  - Battery size
  - Traffic
  - Elevation
  - Weather
- Automatically updates state of charge during the trip (after you manually enter your starting charge).
- Recommends charging stops, including timing and duration.

 What it doesn’t do
- It doesn’t communicate directly with the car, so no automatic battery data or preconditioning unless the vehicle already supports it.
- No confirmation yet on whether this feature will come to the Google Maps mobile app for non‑Android Auto users.

Who benefits most
- EVs with weak or nonexistent native route planners (e.g., Toyota).
- Drivers who prefer Google Maps over clunky built‑in navigation systems.
- Cars that support Android Auto but don’t have Google Built‑In.

Why it matters
This update brings Google Maps closer to the experience Tesla and Rivian owners already enjoy, but now across 350+ EV models. It could become the go‑to route planner for many drivers who want a familiar, reliable interface.
