Mobile app engagement metrics we stopped tracking because they were lying to us
Real question: what metrics have you actively decided to stop reporting on because they were creating bad incentives or giving you misleading signal?
We just removed daily active users from our weekly reporting because optimizing for it was making us do dumb things. More notifications to boost opens. More emails to drive re-engagement. Vanity metrics can be gamed and when you put them in front of people they optimize for them even when they know better.
Curious what others have cut from their core metrics because it stopped telling you anything real.
