Dhurandhar - Legal on a Technicality but Highly Unethical when looking at its Intended Impact on the Majority Public of India

Film Essay 📃

Disclaimer :- This is neither a review, nor a hate post. The movies were a masterpiece in terms of acting, screenplay, direction, music, sound design, etc., just like Sanju was a great movie however, as we matured, we accept that Sanju was a clever attempt at whitewashing a potentially gray individual. This has clearly worked as Sanjay Dutt has proven to be quite successful after Sanju's release.

This brings me to the issue with Dhurandhar. However good of a movie it is, it is still an attempt to whitewash the policies of a Government that have already proven to be a failure years ago. It is common knowledge amongst the educated public that Demonization was a successful attempt by the ruling party to bankrupt the opposition as opposed to eradicating black money, terrorism, and fake currency. However, this failed policy was glorified in the movie to influence the common, uneducated public (the majority) into believing that this was indeed a masterstroke by the ruling party. This has indeed worked as evident by many people (both on reddit and IRL) praising the Government by their view of its effectiveness as shown in the movie.

Moreover, the movie has mischievously and maliciously mixed fictional events and timelines with IRL events and timelines to provide the audience an ILLUSION that the scenes in the movie are in fact based on real events when in reality they are completely made up. The movie has essentially led the uneducated majority into believing that the events that occurred in the movie were close to events that occurred IRL when they are nowhere close to what happened IRL.

The writer/director/producer cannot be held accountable for influencing the public, due on a minor technicality which makes the movie legal. A short few seconds in the beginning of a 4 hour movie stating that it is a work of fiction defends it from legal action, however, its intention of influencing the majority public is highly unethical.
