Changing jobs while my visa is about to expire

Hi! Actually, I’ve been thinking about changing jobs, but I’m a bit hesitant because I only have 5 months left on my visa (I have a 5-year Gijinkoku visa), so I was thinking I should at least renew my visa first before starting to look for a new job. I’m also worried that changing jobs at this in-between stage might cause my next visa to be reduced to a 1-year visa. I could wait until my visa is renewed before starting to look for a new job, but I really want to switch jobs because my current work environment is no longer a good fit for me. Do you guys have any advice? Should I wait for my visa to be renewed, or should I just switch jobs and take the risk that my visa might be reduced?

Yes, I know that even if I don’t switch jobs, there’s no guarantee my next visa will be for another 5 years. But the risk would be higher if I renew it with a new job, right? Also from next year, I’ll be here for 10 years, so if possible, I’d like to apply for PR before… well, you know, the fees go up.
