Help me buy a laptop
Hey everyone,
I’m currently looking for a new laptop mainly for research work. It follows reading articles, slight computations involving SPSS, Jamovi, etc,. and entertainment.
My requirements:
- i5 / Ryzen 5 minimum
- 16 GB RAM (preferable)
- 1 TB storage (or upgradeable)
- Lightweight + good battery
- Prefer HP (had good experience with reliability)
- Touch screen and stylus because it's easy to make notes and prepare
What I’ve found so far:
- HP Envy x360
- HP Pavilion x360
- HP OmniBook (Flip/5 series)
My main confusion:
I’m considering getting a touchscreen + stylus, but I’m not sure if it’s actually reliable.
From what I’ve seen:
- Some people say it’s great for note-taking and flexibility
- Others say they barely use tablet mode and it adds complexity (hinges, durability, etc.)
Questions:
- Envy vs Pavilion vs OmniBook – what would you pick for long-term use?
- How’s HP reliability recently, especially for 2-in-1s?
- Is touchscreen + pen actually useful, or more of a gimmick?
- Any better alternatives (even non-HP) in the same category?
- I am a student at NIT, is there student discounts? I am not aware. If so guide me please
Would really appreciate honest long-term reviews (good or bad).
Thanks!
