Audio switches to buds that are inside charge case

I have the CMF Nothing earbuds and lately I have been having trouble with them connecting to my Windows 11 laptop when I don't want them to. They are in the charge case, I have audio playing from the default speakers on my pc, and suddenly for no discernible reason the audio switches off, because it's going to the CMF earbuds! I can switch it back in audio settings, fine. But then the next day the earbuds have barely any charge. So have they been trying to connect to my laptop all night? My laptop is running overnight playing white noise, and the audio was still playing via speakers in the morning.

Any tips? Is this a Windows issue? I can switch off Bluetooth in Windows when I'm not using the buds but that is a hassle. Does it help to put the charge case in a faraday cage when I want the buds to be charging :D
