During dating how do you respond to a guy who's Answers are very elaborate and almost philosophical and it's difficult to build rapport?
Preface but saying the guy learnt English 10 years ago so it's pretty good . But this is no excuse in UK I've been exposed to plenty of guys of european descent who learn English but have a better way of communicating. Some even don't have any English and the communication is better than the below.
But it's not because he's learnt English some native talkers can be like the below and I usually block and move on but I want to try to work with him because I want it to be language barrier but it's starting to feel like his personality.
I did tell him his Answers are very elaborate, but rather than understanding me he went on to elaborate why he doesn't want to be misunderstood.
Idk how to explain but I feel authencity is showing emotion, showing thought, not just being perfect all the time.
I don't particularly gel with those that have the most articulate well thought out speech.
I find it draining and grating like for instance how do we navigate this becaus eim sure some of us accept it and some of us have a better way of expressing this concern to someone.
I personally find it too philosophical, sociological and scientifically correct???? Idkk what I mean lol. But I just want an "erm" or a vague answer so I can ask a tad more.
**For instances u having a casual chat and you ask something like:**
* what time is your lunch break. They go into the most elaborate explanation with every possibility under the sun. Makes me not want to ask a follow up question.
* me: what do you usually do on first date him: talks about being close and sharing experiences because humans are here to be free and make memories. ( this is too like philosophical)
* me: what shall we do when we first me? Him: we can go do an experience or we can go eat inside or we can go explore nature, it's really up to you but why should we be like other people (this answer is just so ott too specific)
* me: I just want to know what your personality is like would you say your introvert or extrovert. Him: proceeds to tell me why it's important to take time to get to know someone. I agree obviously but I still want to ask and make convo and not just hit with philosophical answers.
* And he also asks me questions but I try to make it conversational not matter of fact. But if I do answer his yes or no questions or matter of fact questions all he got to say is "cool" " okay"
It's so hard for me to explain
Edit to add more Info how he reacts.
* me : aww you must be hardwirking him: well utd not really that hard then goes into elaboration about his schedule and his his work and studies align. Me: sounds busy. Him: Elabirates on how he's not busy but explaining every single part of his schedule.
* him: i finish work at 5 me: you have to eat! Him: well no I will do xyz and explains everything he will do so I reply : so what will you eat if you going to do xyz, him: his into elaborate explanation of food possibilities.
But the way he does so is so matter of fact. He uses blocking sentences where someone feels uncomfortable asking a fools up questions thus making it hard to build a rapport.
